What are the purposes of cardiac scintigraphy?
Indications:
✔️ Clarification of causes for unexplained chest pain
✔️ Suspicion of coronary heart disease (CHD)
✔️ Check-up after heart surgery (stent/bypass/heart transplant)
✔️ Vitality test of the heart muscle
✔️ Assessment of the risk of diabetes
Preparation for the Examination
Duration: approx. 30–45 minutes
Diet: fasting not required; drink plenty of water during the day
Clothing: no jewelry around the neck; otherwise normal clothing is sufficient
Medications:
Bring current thyroid medications (package + dosage)
Iodine-containing contrast agents → 3-month pause
Bromine-containing medications (e.g., cough remedies) → 3-month pause
Avoid iodine tablets or disinfectants containing iodine
Documents: previous examinations (ultrasound, scintigraphy), surgical reports, past radioiodine therapy reports, recent thyroid lab values (≤ 6 months)
After the examination: minimize close contact with pregnant women, children, and immunocompromised individuals on the day of the test
Companions: if assistance is needed (e.g., language or physical support), bring a companion
